Dunn's River Falls and Park, Jamaica

Anyone been to this place? The YouTube videos always show people climbing up slippery rocks in the water while the falls are rushing past their legs. Looks like a spill waiting to happen! At my age, it looks too risky. Is there a safer way to enjoy the Falls or is this climbing required?

(Also looks very crowded)

I did the climb with my son 10 years ago and loved it. However, it is a bit of a tourist trap, it is risky, vendors are aggressive, and Matt has it on his list of places Not to Go (see his video). You can view the falls without climbing. But honestly, what else gives you bragging rights?  Matt suggests visiting a less crowded venue.

ChessE4: you said, "You can view the falls without climbing"...I was asking if one can get INTO the waterfall without

Climbers exit at the top. I don't remember all the staircases, but I should think you could get to the falls. The excursion ticket should give access. But standby forcomments from recent visitors.

My wife and I did this 3 years ago. It was a blast, but a very big tourist trap in the best sense of the term. We highly recommend it. The climb up the falls is not strenuous in the least. I’m fat and middle aged and had no issues…just wear good water shoes. This isn’t something that you can enter as you wish, but you can certainly exit as there are a few points with stairs. I didn’t see anyone exit early. You go up with a guide and they show you were to step. So that is why you can’t just go in wherever. Everyone walks as a chain, so it’s quite safe and the terrain is tiered so there is no way to fall and take out a crowd behind you.
