Minor going on a cruise with one parent
DoomSlayer replied to 104501's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I always suggest that you follow the US guidelines which state you should have written consent from the other parent when traveling with a child internationally regardless of marital status. When I travel with my children, I always have a consent form signed and notarized by their mother. I have only ever been asked to present them once but was glad I had it. Better than me, I'll be below you. I cheaped out when booking last minute via casino comp and did a GTY OV on the same cruise. They put me on Deck 2 as far forward as I could be. You better believe I am crossing my fingers for my Royal Up to come through.

I always just use USD for smaller purchases, taxi ride, misc. items. I have never had a problem with them not accepting them at a 1:1 rate. I do bring my credit cards for larger purchases and restaurants. If you do use a credit card, make sure it has no foreign transaction fees, because they will often process purchases as Bahamian Dollars. Granted, I am American, but I would assume that a Canadian visiting the Bahamas would be similar to a Canadian visiting the US as far as financial transactions go.

I think it is offer and profile dependent. I have had recent GTYs through the casino with $300, and others with $150 as you mentioned. I agree, and would pick my own room for the $150.

But for charges to your onboard account, you only get 3%, right? -
It must have something to do with the TA and how they interact with the system. I booked my XMas cruise on Harmony a little over a year in advance and had the OBC available to me immediately after booking.
-
I've never experienced that with my TA, but I suppose it could be issued later. Sounds like you may have had a different experience than me at some point on this topic.

You should see it in the cruise planner via the website. Look in the top right corner. This is credit I received from my TA for our XMas Cruise.

This is a broad answer, you really should call and ask Royal for a definitive answer and their policy. The 6-month rule is tied to a US law that grants Canadian citizens a 6 month stay in the US without a visa. You can either renew your passport, or use an alternative document such as NEXUS, SENTRI, or an enhanced driver's license. Minors under 16 are still allowed to use birth certificates. You can see the US requirements here under the "via land and sea" section: Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative | Homeland Security (dhs.gov) However, there seems to be a "loophole" in that Canada actually extends their passports for 6 months beyond expiration. This means you should be able to travel with a passport as long as it is valid on the date of entry. Six Month Passport Validity Countries (cbp.gov) Like I said, these are broad answers and you should really call Royal and ask on their specific policies as they may differ and be more strict than the laws.

The correct answer, based on their policy, is no sharing of drinks obtained via drink packages. If they choose to enforce that policy on you if you share with your little one is their choice, but still a possibility. If they decide to enforce the policy, are you prepared for the consequences? We have traveled with a 2 year grandchild before, and she was completely content with the free drink options available on board. I’m not going to judge you either way, but Royal staff could. Have a blast with your little one on the trip. The merry-go-round was a huge hit with our granddaughter when we took her.

Help With Internet - Specifically When in Mexico
DoomSlayer replied to WAAAYTOOO's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
You can't use the VPN on their devices unless they allow you to install it, which I doubt they would. I get similar issues from Cozumel and Costa Maya when I am there on my personal devices while in port. For me, it seems to have started when they switched to Starlink. That's when I had to start using a VPN so I could still manage things at work and home. If Yahoo is your only site you want to visit using their computers, you can try https://world.yahoo.com and select the US site. Hopefully that still works and is not just for the main yahoo page, but your e-mail as well. -
Help With Internet - Specifically When in Mexico
DoomSlayer replied to WAAAYTOOO's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I have run into that too. It is based on location services that are often detected by the services you are connecting to based on your IP address or location you advertise if you allow location services to be shared from the device you are using. I often get the Spanish / Mexican versions of Google, Yahoo, etc... and am often not able to interact with some key services, such as my brokerage account or banks without verification when that occurs. The only solution I have is to use a VPN service with an endpoint located in Mainland USA so that the service you are using thinks you are sitting in the USA. -
Depends what is important to you and how you personally value your time. I paid $22.99 per person per day for the Key on a 7-night cruise I have upcoming at the end of August as opposed to just $17.99 for the internet. There seems to be no general consensus as to the true value of the Key and if it is worth buying. I question the value sometimes, but my wife loves the Key as it takes a lot of stress out of Day 1 for her by not having to stand in lines, having a relaxed lunch while waiting on rooms to open, and having a place to drop off carry-on luggage once we get on board. Disembarkation is also nice with the key because you can sleep in a little, eat breakfast, and leave when you are ready as opposed to having to go through the cattle call. We are usually able to get the Key for about $5 to $7 per day over the internet package (which we would buy a multi device package plan anyway), so in essence, we are paying $35 to $50 per person total for a lot of Day 1 perks and privileges based on a 7-day cruise. All the other "perks" beyond day 1 and disembarkation are really not beneficial or that great in my opinion. The only shows we use the dedicated seating for is the Aqua Theater because we usually find better seats we like in the other shows. I sometimes use the dedicated FlowRider time myself, but not often as it is usually too early in the morning for me. Tender ports are becoming rare and I have not had an itinerary with one for the past few years, so no gains there. I guess if you look at my travel lifestyle, the Key does kind of fit in. I pay premium fares for flights so I can check in quickly, drop off luggage at airports using the priority lines, and get priority seating and boarding on the plane. I pay for TSA precheck and CLEAR so I don't have to wait in security lines at the airport. I pay for access to Centurion and other lounges in airports (via my credit card's annual fee) so I don't have to wait with the masses at the airports. I value my Hilton Gold status and my Hertz President's Circle status because it keeps me out of line. This is exactly how I view the Key -- it keeps me out of the line.
