GigiT
Can anyone recommend a hotel in Rome near the famous sites and/or trains that won't break the bank?
FionaMG
We stayed at the Hotel Lancelot because we wanted to be in walking distance of the Colosseum and would happily stay again. https://www.lancelothotel.com/ GigiT
Lovetocruise2002
I don't really know how pricing compares, but in our Rome hotel search, we narrowed it down to 2 of them. Marriott Grand Flora, and H10 Palazzo Galla. @mashley1021 is blogging right now and they sailed OY out of Civitavecchia and they stayed at the Doubletree Monti in Rome. That place looks decent too. Had I known about that place earlier, I probably would have done that too. GigiT, mashley1021 and rjweber3 2

Here was our review: Also, I didn't mention this in the review but it was less than a 10 minute walk to Rome Termini station as well if you wanted to use trains to get around. We didn't for a variety of reasons (my mom's issues with walking as well as a train strike the weekend we got on OY), but it is very well located for that if you want to! We did walk over there once for the Sephora when my mom realized something she forgot to pack. Let me know if you have any questions! - Ashley WAAAYTOOO
loki007
Highly recommend an airbnb. We stayed at Giulia & Federica's place just steps from the Vatican and much cheaper than a hotel. The apartment was beautiful and they were awesome hosts. TessFromFlorida and rjweber3
Dave and Linda
Hotel Dei Mellini.Very nice breakfast spread every morning, with excellent COFFEE. Prati part of town. Next to Tiber river, near an on again, off again river ferry dock. Walkable to Trevi fountain and Pantheon. Also recommend using the on and off bus service. Walked to Colosseum, took cab back. Great food everywhere. Felt save at all times.
TessFromFlorida
I also suggest checking out Airbnb. We enjoyed living like locals in a beautiful apartment in a fantastic location, just a short walk from the Vatican. We had 3x the space we would have had in a hotel and a full kitchen. rjweber3
vithibee
You can try Hotel Grifo. It is beautiful and close to the colosseum and the station rjweber3
FOB
Not sure if you still need it but, based on a recommendation from someone in our church who has been there before, we have booked Residenza Paulo VI which is across the road from the left hand curve of the colonnade as you look at the Vatican from St Peter’s square. Don’t think we could have got closer to the Vatican if we had actually tried. And officially we are not staying in Rome as we are inside the Vatican city rjweber3
Gaggi
I stayed in Rome last year and found a couple of decent options that were budget-friendly. One place I liked was close to the Termini station, making it easy to reach the main sites. It wasn’t fancy, but it was clean and convenient. Another option is to look for hotels in Trastevere; it's charming and has good connections to the city center.
