It is a new week and with it comes a new Odyssey of the Seas construction photo to share.

Meyer Werft shared a new webcam image of Odyssey of the Seas in Hall 6 of the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

Meyer Werft is back to updating its webcam just about once every week to show off the progress being made on Royal Caribbean's next new cruise ship.

Odyssey of the Seas will be the second Quantum Ultra Class ship in the fleet, and the first to sail from North America and Europe.

Odyssey of the Seas is scheduled to sail in Spring 2021, beginning with a couple of early sailings in Southampton & Barcelona, and then spending the summer in Rome offering sailing Eastern Mediterranean cruises.

After her European opening, Odyssey will transition to the United States for her North American debut in November 2021.

There she will continue her inaugural year in Fort Lauderdale, FL with 8- and 6-night Caribbean itineraries.

While she was originally scheduled to begin sailings this month before construction delays impacted the timeline, Odyssey of the Seas is on scheduled to join the fleet for a Spring 2021 delivery.

Royal Caribbean Group confirmed in their third quarter business update that funds have been allocated for delivery of Odyssey of the Seas during the first quarter of 2021.

Odyssey will differentiate herself from other Royal Caribbean cruise ships by offering a "next generation SeaPlex" that will have the addition of this venue’s first Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade with club-level views of the competition below; a reimagined Adventure Ocean kids program and a maxed-out teen lounge with gaming consoles, music and movies.

Dining on Odyssey of the Seas will be top notch as well, with the ship offing Teppanyaki and Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar.

Odyssey of the Seas will be Royal Caribbean's next new cruise ship and begin sailings in Europe with cruises from Southampton and Barcelona in early April 2021.

Odyssey will then transition to Rome, where she will sail Eastern Mediterranean cruises for the summer.

What makes Odyssey of the Seas different?

Odyssey of the Seas will be the first Quantum Ultra Class cruise ship to sail from Europe and North America, giving a new audience the opportunity to experience this class.

Royal Caribbean always takes steps to ensure its newest ship comes with a variety of new features that stand out, and Odyssey of the Seas will be no exception.

Delivery still on schedule

Over the last few weeks, Royal Caribbean has confirmed that Odyssey of the Seas is on schedule for her 2021 delivery.

She was originally to debut in November 2020, but delays at the shipyard due to the global health crisis changed plans.

Nonetheless, her current delivery date appears to be accurate, as Royal Caribbean Group confirmed this week in its third quarter earnings report that Royal Caribbean Group has allocated funds for delivery of Odyssey of the Seas during the first quarter of 2021.

Some cruise fans have also noted the fact Royal Caribbean added earlier sailings from Southampton and Barcelona to be a positive sign that the ship is going to be delivered on time.

Royal Caribbean has added two new sailings on Odyssey of the Seas ahead of her published schedule to sail out of Southampton, England in 2021.

A 3-night Weekend Getaway Cruise from Southampton is available on April 2, 2021, which will include stops in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Following that sailing, Odyssey will have a 5-night repositioning cruise between Southampton and Barcelona, Spain.

In addition, Royal Caribbean added new sailings from Barcelona ahead of her previously scheduled cruises from Rome.

The Barcelona sailings include a 4-night cruise on April 26 and two 5-night sailings out of Barcelona on April 12 and 21.

Prior to these newly added sailings, Odyssey of the Seas was scheduled to debut in Europe with cruises from Rome in April 2021.

Odyssey will then spend her inaugural season sailing Eastern Mediterranean cruises from Rome, before arriving to the U.S. in November 2021.

The Meyer Werft shipyard webcam was updated this week, following a nearly month-long absence of new photo updates. However, the new photo is labeled as from October 10, so it may simply be a "not as old as the previous photo" update.

This new photo is from the other end of Hall 6, with a good look at the bow of Odyssey of the Seas.

In a SEC filing last week, Royal Caribbean indicated that Odyssey of the Seas will be delivered within the planned time frame. The new ship has been delayed once due to the impact of the global health crisis.

What is special about Odyssey of the Seas?

While the official Meyer Werft shipyard webcam has not been updated in over two weeks, the shipyard did provide a new photo of Odyssey of the Seas elsewhere.

In a promotion for tours resuming of the shipyard, a new construction photo has been posted of Royal Caribbean's next new cruise ship.

Meyer Werft's visitor center attracts 250,000 visitors every year, and is home right now to Odyssey and AIDAcosma from AIDA Cruises.

The building dock can be viewed from the 3,500 square meter visitor center on the shipyard site.

Royal Caribbean is going to take their live shows on cruise ships to new heights, according to a recently shared video.

Nick Weir, Senior Vice President of Entertainment for Royal Caribbean International, shared a video on Twitter of a demonstration of the cruise line's drone technology for an upcoming show on its newest cruise ship, Odyssey of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean has used drones in shows in the last couple of years, but Mr. Weir characterized this drone performance on Odyssey of the Seas as, "most complex technology yet."

A total of 48 drones are being used in the technical rehearsal with a performer in the middle of them, appearing to command the drones around him.

Royal Caribbean has already used drones on at least two ships, including Symphony of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas.

The new show is being developed for Odyssey of the Seas, which is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard.

Royal Caribbean has not yet revealed the entertainment for Odyssey of the Seas, but Mr. Weir enjoys showing off brief teases on what we can expect to see.

Many cruise fans will notice the rather large ship name adorned to the side of the hull, which was highlighted by the shipyard last week.

Odyssey of the Seas is scheduled to begin cruises in April 2021 out of Rome. She was originally going to debut in November 2020, but those plans were delayed.

The Meyer Werft shipyard shared two new photos of Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas that highlight the majestic size of this new cruise ship.

It is no surprise that Odyssey of the Seas is going to be a giant cruise ship.  While she may not attain the status of the world's largest cruise ship (that honor goes to sister Wonder of the Seas, which is under construction in France), she is still a very large ship.

Meyer Werft provided a look at the ship's name on the bow. In the case of Odyssey of the Seas, the "O" alone measures 11.2 meters (36 feet) in height!

The entire "Odyssey of the Seas" name is 87.4 meters (286 feet) long.

It is also worth noting the name is positioned lower than on other Royal Caribbean ships.  In fact, the bottom of the "O" seems to go below the waterline of the ship.

Compare the placement of Odyssey's name to sister ships Ovation of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas, which have their names higher up on the hull of the vessel.

Odyssey of the Seas is slated to become Royal Caribbean's next cruise ship to join the fleet, and will debut in summer 2021 in Europe instead of fall 2020 in Fort Lauderdale.
